White Sands National Monument in New Mexico encompasses one of the most inspiring landscapes I have seen so far. On a sunny day in April 2008 I arrived there (not for the first time), parked the car, and went into the dunes. It was in the early afternoon when I started making photos. Almost without a pause I continued until sunset. Most reluctantly I returned to the car when a distant loudspeaker voice reminded visitors to leave the park. A sunset in White Sands NM is an unforgettable experience. The following is a small selection of the many pictures I made during that walk. The photos are shown in chronological order, so one can see the color of the light change and the shadows grow longer as the sun descends toward the horizon (the last photo was made shortly after sunset).
I "rediscovered" a number of unprocessed RAW files when I played around with the latest version of RawTherapee (3.0) in August 2011. When I saw the excellent quality of the pictures obtained with the new software, I decided to create a photo series separate from my other 2008 pictures.
